Obama To Tap 'Border Czar' For Top Customs Post

Law360, New York (September 22, 2009, 5:18 PM EDT) -- The White House has announced that it plans to nominate current U.S. “border czar” Alan Bersin to take over the top position at U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that he intended to shift Bersin's role within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Bersin, who has served as the DHS' assistant secretary for international affairs and special representative for border affairs since April, has experience as both a U.S. attorney and a law enforcement official.
