Law360, New York (September 29, 2009, 1:25 PM ET) -- Trucking giant Swift Transportation Co. Inc. has agreed to pay about $177,000 to settle a lawsuit arising from the spill of diesel fuel, laundry detergent, nonchlorine bleach and fabric softener into a creek near Champaign, Ill.
The Illinois attorney general's office filed a motion Monday asking for court approval of the consent decree, under which about $27,000 will go toward past natural resource damage assessment costs, while the remainder will go toward habitat enhancement, such as preventing stream erosion.
