Counselor Sues University For Racial Bias

Law360, New York (October 30, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- An African-American college counselor at a San Diego State University department that encourages diversity is taking his supervisor—who is also African-American—to court, alleging that he was passed over for a promotion because members of a hiring committee convened by the supervisor harbored racist prejudices.

The lawsuit, filed Oct. 24 in the Superior Court of California for the County of San Diego, was brought by Charles C. Neal, a counselor in San Diego State University’s Office of Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs.
