Crowell & Moring To Implement Voluntary Layoffs

Law360, New York (October 6, 2009, 6:00 PM EDT) -- Crowell & Moring LLP has asked its support service staff members to consider voluntary layoffs in exchange for six months' pay as the firm tries to narrow its nonattorney headcount.

In a memo obtained Monday by law and litigation blog Above the Law, the firm told employees it had learned that it “lag[ged] significantly behind” its peers in the relative size of its support service staff, “i.e. the ratio of … secretaries to lawyers.”
