US Protests WTO Finding On China Public Morals Claim

Law360, New York (October 7, 2009, 5:46 PM EDT) -- The United States has appealed part of a World Trade Organization decision ordering China to relax its import restrictions on American media products, arguing that the panel erred in ruling that some limitations could be considered "necessary" to protect public morals.

The U.S. filed a notice of appeal Monday, informing WTO members that it had chosen to ask the organization's Appellate Body to reconsider whether China's restrictions should be labeled as "necessary"to protect public morals in that country under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade....
