Microsoft Pays $440M To Settle InterTrust's Patent Suit

Law360, New York (April 12, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft will pay $440 to InterTrust, a joint venture owned by Sony, Philips and investment bank Stephens Inc., to settle a lawsuit over patents for technology used to prevent the unauthorized copying of music and video files.

In settling the suit, Microsoft will receive a license to a portfolio of patents for protecting media files, the companies said in a statement Monday.
