Exxon Appeals $150M Gas Leak Judgment

Law360, New York (October 9, 2009, 6:06 PM EDT) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. said Friday it had appealed a $150 million judgment awarded to residents of Jacksonville, Md., after a jury found in March that the company was liable for an undetected gas leak at a service station that contaminated surrounding groundwater.

In a statement Friday, Exxon spokesman Kevin M. Allexon said while the company agreed with the jury's finding that the incident was an “unfortunate accident,” Exxon believed the compensation should be limited to actual harm caused by the spill.
