Smithfield Hits Back At TIG In Pig Pollution Suit

Law360, New York (October 13, 2009, 1:49 PM EDT) -- Premium Standard Farms LLC, a Smithfield Foods Inc. subsidiary accused of discharging pollution from its hog farms, has asked a federal judge to throw out the defenses offered by TIG Insurance Co. in their dispute over insurance coverage.

Premium filed several motions Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri asking the court to strike and dismiss TIG's affirmative defenses and counterclaims.
