Cisco Snags Mobile Internet Co. Starent For $2.9B

Law360, New York (October 13, 2009, 12:55 PM ET) -- Cisco Systems Inc. continued its October buying spree Tuesday, adding mobile Internet network infrastructure company Starent Networks Corp. in an all-cash deal estimated to total $2.9 billion.

Picking up Starent will give Cisco a greater foothold in the developing mobile Internet market, and will increase its offerings to mobile network service providers. Cisco said in the announcement that it expected the amount of data transmitted over mobile networks to double by 2013.
