E.C. To Take Action Against Italy Over Toll-Road Merger

Law360, New York (November 7, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- European Union regulators have decided to take legal action against Italy for objecting to a planned $17.9 billion merger of Italian highway operator Autostrade with Spanish infrastructure company Abertis Infraestructuras SA.

E.U. Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy, who is looking to remove roadblocks to cross-border transactions among Member States, said Tuesday he planned to recommend an infringement procedure against Rome, which could land the city in court.
