Purdue Hits Cipher With Patent Suit Over Ultram

Law360, New York (November 2, 2009, 1:39 PM EST) -- Purdue Pharma Products LP has sued Cipher Pharmaceuticals Inc. over Cipher's new drug application for its own version of Purdue's Ultram pain reliever, alleging the application infringes Purdue's patents because they have yet to expire.

The suit, filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, is one of several that Purdue has brought against other drug companies as it seeks to protect its Ultram patents. Purdue has asked to consolidate at least some of the actions into multidistrict legislation.
