House Panel Tweaks, Clears Investor Protection Bill

Law360, New York (November 4, 2009, 1:33 PM EST) -- A U.S. House of Representatives committee approved a bill designed to bolster the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's investor protection powers on Wednesday, making last-minute changes that could alter corporate governance and oversight requirements more broadly than the original proposal.

The Investor Protection Act of 2009, one of four bills offered by Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., as part of Congress' broader financial regulatory and oversight reform efforts, cleared the House Financial Services Committee by a 41-28 vote.
