House Approves Chemical, Water Plant Safety Bill

Law360, New York (November 06, 2009, 4:21 PM ET) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday voted to approve a bill designed to mitigate the environmental consequences of an attack on chemical and water treatment plants, giving federal regulators the authority to order the use of safer substances and technologies at the riskiest facilities.

The Chemical and Water Security Act of 2009, sponsored by Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., passed by a vote of 230-193.
