House Clears Bill To Boost Medical Isotope Supply

Law360, New York (November 06, 2009, 1:20 PM ET) -- The U.S. House of Representatives has signed off on a bill that aims to address a critical shortage of medical isotopes in the U.S. by increasing federal authority and funding to jump-start domestic production while phasing out exports of highly enriched uranium to foreign isotope suppliers.

The American Medical Isotopes Production Act, sponsored by energy and environment subcommittee chairman Edward Markey, D-Mass., cleared the House on Thursday by a vote of 400 to 17.
