EU Opens Antitrust Probe Of Reuters Data Feeds

Law360, New York (November 10, 2009, 2:41 PM EST) -- The European Commission has opened formal antitrust proceedings against the news and financial data giant Thomson Reuters concerning a potential infringement of EC Treaty rules on abuse of a dominant market position related to the company's real-time market data feeds.

The EC will investigate in particular whether customers or competitors are prevented from translating Reuters Instrument Codes to alternative identification codes of other data feed suppliers — known as “mapping” — to the detriment of competition, the EU regulator said Tuesday.
