TeliaSonera-Alfa To Launch Joint Cell Phone Outfit

Law360, New York (November 12, 2009, 4:46 PM ET) -- Swedish telecommunications company TeliaSonera and Russian conglomerate Alfa Group announced Thursday that they would form a new U.S.-listed company by combining their ownership stakes in two cell phone operators — a move that could help the companies resolve ongoing legal disputes.

If the deal is finalized, the new company will own the majority of the shares in Turkish cell phone operator Turkcell and Russian cell phone operator MegaFon.

AF Telecom, the third major shareholder in MegaFon, has also been invited to join the partnership.
