Growing Safe Food Act Vows Aid To Small Farms

Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., has introduced a new food safety bill promising support for small farmers, some of whom had balked at the pending FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, which remains stalled in Senate committees behind the debate over health care reform.

Introduced Tuesday and co-sponsored by five other democrats and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., the bill seeks to amend the Agricultural Research, Extension and Education Reform Act of 1998 to establish, among other purposes, a national food safety training, education, extension, outreach and technical assistance program...
