Ghana Vows To Cut Illegal Timber Exports To EU

Law360, New York (November 19, 2009, 1:09 PM ET) -- Ghana has reached an agreement with the European Union to make sure that the West African nation exports only legally harvested timber to Europe, as the EU continues to mull legislation aimed at cutting down on illegal timber imports.

The Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade Voluntary Partnership Agreement — which EU officials and H.E. Nana Bema Kumi, Ghana's head of mission to the EU, plan to sign Friday in Brussels — is the first agreement of its kind, the EU said Thursday.
