FERC Launches Probe Of Gas Pipeline Rates

Law360, New York (November 19, 2009, 4:35 PM ET) -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has launched an investigation into the rates charged by three interstate natural gas pipelines to determine whether the companies are overrecovering costs, harming consumers with unfairly high prices.

The probe, announced Thursday, targets Northern Natural Gas Co., Great Lakes Gas Transmission LP and Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America LLC.

“Protecting consumers against unjust and unreasonable rates is a fundamental responsibility of the commission under the Natural Gas Act,” FERC Chairman Jon Wellinghoff said.
