Methodology:
In September and October 2009, Law360 surveyed law firms with 100 or more lawyers and select boutique firms to find the number of lawyers working for the firm in the United States and in the following practice areas: Bankruptcy, Competition, Employment, Energy, Environmental, Insurance, Intellectual Property, Product Liability and Securities.
Respondents were asked to count only full-time lawyers who work in the United States and who devote at least 50 percent of their time to the listed practice area. For lawyers who straddle multiple areas, respondents were asked to provide an estimated headcount based on the percentage of time dedicated to each listed area. Information for nonresponding firms was researched using the firms’ Web sites and the information the firms submitted to Martindale.
