Continental, ExpressJet Fined Over Tarmac Debacle

Law360, New York (November 24, 2009, 4:48 PM ET) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday levied a civil penalty of $100,000 against Continental Airlines Inc. and ExpressJet Airlines for their roles in causing passengers on Continental Express flight 2816 to remain on board for almost six hours after landing.

The action, which the agency called precedential, reflected a settlement between the airlines and the DOT's Aviation Enforcement Office in connection with the Aug. 8 incident.
