Quanta Ordered To Pay Ricoh $14.5M In Patent Suit

Law360, New York (November 25, 2009, 4:30 PM EST) -- A federal judge has ordered Quanta Storage Inc. to fork over $14.5 million to rival Ricoh Co. Ltd. for infringing two patents related to optical drives.

Judge Barbara B. Crabb on Tuesday entered the judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, in compensation for Quanta's infringement of U.S. Patents Number 5,063,552, “Optical disk apparatus with data transfer rate and rotational speed variable by annular zones,” and 6,661,755, “Optical disk apparatus,” between Nov. 11, 2004, and Nov. 9, 2009.
