USDA Says Plan Lets Pilgrim's Pride Evade Rules

Law360, New York (November 25, 2009, 6:31 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture challenged the reorganization plan of bankrupt poultry processor Pilgrim's Pride Inc. on Wednesday, claiming the plan provides releases to the company that could wrongly excuse it from federal industry regulations.

In an objection filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, the department challenged certain provisions of Pilgrim's Pride's latest proposal on behalf of several of its divisions that enforce federal laws regulating poultry processing.
