Richtek Sues UPI Over Circuit Patents In ITC

Law360, New York (December 3, 2009, 3:38 PM EST) -- Taiwan-based Richtek Technology Corp. has accused rival uPI Semiconductor Corp. in the U.S. International Trade Commission of stealing trade secrets and utilizing them to produce electrical circuit components that infringe three patents.

In a Section 337 complaint lodged Wednesday, Richtek and a U.S. subsidiary allege that uPI has hired away several key employees for the purpose of illegally acquiring Richtek's proprietary and trade secret information to shortcut the lengthy process of creating original circuit technologies.
