Verizon Wireless Must Explain Termination Fees: FCC

Law360, New York (December 7, 2009, 2:40 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission has sent a letter to Verizon Wireless seeking answers to reports that the company has doubled its early termination fees for certain cell phone contracts and is tagging consumers with questionable usage charges.

Ruth Milkman, head of the wireless telecommunications bureau at the agency, dashed off the letter Friday demanding explanation of Verizon Wireless’ billing practices amid claims that the company has walloped consumers with a $350 penalty for terminating cell phone contracts early.
