Toyota, Others Survive Britannica Search IP Appeal

Law360, New York (December 7, 2009, 1:45 PM EST) -- Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. has lost the first of several appeals challenging district court rulings finding invalid three of its patents at the center of infringement suits against global positioning system manufacturers including Toyota Motors Sales USA Inc. and American Honda Motor Co.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled Friday that the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas properly deemed indefinite one of the patents at issue and properly dismissed claims regarding a second patent.
