Court Upholds Severance Pay To Avista Traders

Law360, New York (December 7, 2009, 4:12 PM EST) -- A Washington appeals court has upheld a lower court's decision to grant severance pay to two former traders at Avista Energy Inc. who quit their positions to take jobs at a Shell Oil Co. subsidiary that was buying Avista.

The three-judge panel in the Court of Appeals of the State of Washington on Thursday also upheld the lower court's decision to grant the two traders exemplary damages, meaning Avista will have to pay the traders double the 12 months in severance pay their employment contracts normally...
