International M&A Activity Plunged In 2009: OECD

Law360, New York (December 8, 2009, 6:42 PM EST) -- International mergers and acquisitions are projected to take their greatest year-over-year tumble in more than a decade in 2009, dropping 56 percent compared with 2008, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in a report released Tuesday.

M&A activity has fallen off in both the OECD area — mostly comprised of countries with developed economies — and in the emerging economies of Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa, the Paris-based group said.
