FCC Needs To Improve Cell Phone Oversight: GAO

Law360, New York (December 11, 2009, 1:52 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission is failing to address millions of consumers' concerns over cell phone providers' billing, contract terms, early termination fees and customer service, according to a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The communications regulator receives tens of thousands of wireless consumer complaints each year, but it is doing a poor job of fielding, analyzing and addressing those concerns, causing it to miss key emerging trends and regulatory violations in the wireless industry, the GAO said in a report released Thursday....
