Samsung Secures Win In Suit Over Keyboard Patents

Law360, New York (November 21, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- South Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. stands to collect $9 million in compensation following a victory in a U.S. federal lawsuit against a Taiwanese computer manufacturer that infringed its patents for laptop keyboards.

Judge Vaughn R. Walker in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California determined Friday that Compal Electronics Inc. violated Samsung’s keyboard patents for its laptop computers sold between April 1999 and March 2002, and ordered Compal to make a compensation payment to Samsung.
