E-Verify System To Offer Self-Check Option: Officials

Law360, New York (December 11, 2009, 5:34 PM EST) -- A controversial government system that allows U.S. employers to check the legal status of employees will be modified so workers can look up their own information ahead of the hiring process, federal immigration officials said.

Alejandro Mayorkas, executive director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, told reporters during a press briefing Thursday that officials are working on developing a self-check function for the E-Verify electronic database.
