Texas High Court Dumps $14M Whirlpool Fire Verdict

Law360, New York (December 11, 2009, 5:12 PM ET) -- The Texas Supreme Court has overturned a jury verdict that awarded $14 million to the family of a teenager who was killed in a fire they claimed started in a dryer manufactured by Whirlpool Corp.

In its unanimous decision, issued Friday, the court tossed the expert opinion that was central to the family's case in a ruling the family's attorney said would likely raise the bar for what is required of expert testimony.
