Emissions Limits Can't Halt Climate Change: USDA

Law360, New York (December 14, 2009, 7:03 PM EST) -- The rate of climate change in the 21st century will very likely outpace the change of the previous 10,000 years, even if more stringent emissions controls are adopted, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture report forecasting the effects of climate change on U.S. ecosystems.

Significant climate change is inevitable because of greenhouse gases already present the atmosphere, and impacts on U.S. agriculture, land and water systems and biodiversity are already apparent and likely to worsen, the USDA said in the report, released Monday.
