Appleton, NRC Lose Contribution Bid In River Cleanup

Law360, New York (December 17, 2009, 5:11 PM ET) -- Appleton Papers Inc. and NCR Corp. have lost a bid to force more than 20 other companies and governmental entities to share in the cost of cleaning up a Wisconsin river polluted from years of polychlorinated biphenyl contamination.

Judge William C. Griesbach of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin granted summary judgment Wednesday to defendants including Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products LP and U.S. Paper Mills Corp. on the plaintiffs' attempt to bring contribution claims for cleanup at the Lower Fox River.
