Equal Maker Merisant's Amended Ch. 11 Plan Confirmed

Law360, New York (December 17, 2009, 5:42 PM EST) -- A bankruptcy judge has approved Merisant Worldwide Inc.'s amended reorganization plan as the beleaguered maker of Equal and other low-calorie sweeteners eyes a speedy emergence from Chapter 11.

Judge Peter J. Walsh of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on Wednesday confirmed Merisant's third amended joint plan of reorganization, which will reduce the aggregate principal amount of Merisant's indebtedness from $567 million to about $147 million while decreasing its annual cash interest expense from about $36 million to $11 million.
