Law360, New York (December 22, 2009, 3:29 PM ET) -- Electronic measurement company Agilent Technologies Inc.'s $1.5 billion acquisition of scientific instrument supplier Varian Inc. has met a delay, with the European Union's competition authority extending its antitrust review of the tie-up to Jan. 20, 2010.
The European Commission pushed back the deadline by which it will either give the deal the go-ahead or launch an antitrust probe after Agilent offered new commitments related to the regulator's concerns, according to news reports.
An Agilent representative declined to comment on the matter.
