Sybase To Pay $23M For Text Messaging Patent License

Law360, New York (December 23, 2009, 4:49 PM EST) -- Software company Sybase Inc. has agreed to pay $23 million to settle a pair of lawsuits brought by TeleCommunication Systems Inc. that accused it of infringing patents covering text messaging technology.

In exchange for the $23 million payment, Sybase will receive a license to the TCS intercarrier messaging family of patents, the two companies said Wednesday in a joint statement. Other specific terms of the settlement were confidential.
