USDA Plans To Require Nutritional Labeling For Meat

Law360, New York (December 23, 2009, 5:52 PM EST) -- Meat processors and vendors may have to begin providing nutritional information on the labels for so-called major cuts of raw meat and poultry products that include only one ingredient, under a rule proposed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service put out a renewed call for public comments Friday on the rule — originally proposed in 2001 — meant to help buyers make better-informed decisions when choosing meat products that are not ground or chopped.
