Securities Litigation Grows More Slowly Than Expected

Law360, New York (January 4, 2010, 6:21 PM EST) -- Months removed from the financial calamities of late 2008, most observers expected a securities litigation bonanza in 2009. But a survey by Law360 shows that while there was a rise in cases filed under the securities banner, the jump was not nearly as large as expected.

A total of 1,606 securities lawsuits, including those launched by private actors and regulatory agencies, were filed in 2009, according to the Law360 survey. That's a rise of approximately 8.3 percent from the 1,483 filed over the course of 2008,...
