Lesbian Fire Chief Burned By Bias Suits

Law360, New York (November 29, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Under increasing attack, the nation’s first openly lesbian big-city fire chief has decided to resign in the midst of a slew of lawsuits that accuse her of harassing and discriminating against other firefighters because of their sexual orientation.

On Tuesday, Bonnie Bleskachek’s attorney and the mayor of Minneapolis announced that she was stepping down as the city’s battalion chief, capping off her troubled stint in the role.

A representative from the Minneapolis Fire Department was not immediately available to comment.
