CPSC To Investigate Cadmium In Children's Jewelry

Law360, New York (January 11, 2010, 6:53 PM EST) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has opened a formal investigation into cadmium in children’s metal jewelry, and it plans to warn Chinese manufacturers against replacing lead in children's products with other heavy metals, the agency said Monday.

CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum said she plans to warn against the use of heavy metals, “especially cadmium,” in children’s products in a speech taped for delivery Tuesday to regulators at the APEC Toy Safety Initiative/Dialogue in Hong Kong.
