Miami Hospital Settles Kickback Charges For $15.4M

Law360, New York (November 30, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Miami hospital and its owners have agreed to pay $15.4 million to settle charges that they paid kickbacks to physicians in return for patient admissions, the Department of Justice said Thursday.

Larkin Community Hospital in Miami and its current and former owners, Dr. Jack Michel, Dr. James Desnick, Morris Esformes and Philip Esformes, agreed to settle federal and Florida civil health care fraud claims against them, the DOJ said.
