Panel Calls For Clearer TARP Wind-Down Strategy

Law360, New York (January 14, 2010, 1:43 PM EST) -- The panel charged with overseeing the U.S. government's Troubled Asset Relief Program has called for the Department of the Treasury to develop a clearer strategy for winding the program down and to make companies receiving TARP loans more accountable.

In a report released Wednesday, the five-member Congressional Oversight Panel also said the Treasury Department must find a way to withdraw the “implicit guarantee” that TARP has extended to large banks.
