Morris Enters Ch. 11 Expecting Speedy Restructuring

Law360, New York (January 20, 2010, 4:33 PM EST) -- After a failed bid to restructure out of court, Morris Publishing Group LLC has filed for Chapter 11 protection and secured approval for first-day motions in a prearranged plan to reduce the newspaper publisher’s debt by 70 percent.

The company and 14 affiliated entities filed the petition Tuesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Judge John Dalis granted approval for a number of first-day motions that will allow Morris to operate as normal.
