Norfolk Southern Escapes Suit Over Toxic Train Crash

Law360, New York (January 25, 2010, 6:14 PM EST) -- A federal judge has tossed a putative class action accusing Norfolk Southern Corp. of negligence in connection with a 2005 train derailment in which a tanker ruptured and released chlorine gas into the air, killing nine people in Graniteville, S.C.

Judge Margaret Seymour of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina tossed the case Wednesday, saying the plaintiffs had failed to show their claims had any merit.
