Obama Seeks More Cash To Fight Health Care Fraud

Law360, New York (January 29, 2010, 6:21 PM EST) -- Speaking at the first national summit on health care fraud, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has revealed that President Barack Obama plans to request $561 million in fiscal year 2011 to fight the problem — an increase of 80 percent.

The request will come on the heels of a record-setting year at the U.S. Department of Justice. In 2009, the government charged more than 800 defendants with health care fraud, an all-time high, Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday.
