Jury Awards Ion $25M In Seismic Sensor Patent Suit

Law360, New York (February 1, 2010, 6:22 PM EST) -- Finding that seismic equipment manufacturer Sercel Inc. infringed Ion Geophysical Corp.'s patent, a federal jury has awarded Ion $25.2 million in compensatory damages.

The jury reached its verdict Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, finding that Sercel's seismic sensor products infringed Ion's patent, U.S. Patent Number 5,852,242.

The jury found that three of Sercel's seismic sensor units, the 408, 428 and SeaRay digital seismic sensor units, infringed all of Ion's asserted claims, according to the jury verdict form.
