Mass. Delivery Cos. Settle AG's Misclassification Claims

Law360, New York (February 3, 2010, 2:39 PM EST) -- The Massachusetts attorney general's office has agreed to settlements with four local restaurant meal-delivery services to resolve accusations that the companies violated state wage laws by misclassifying their drivers as independent contractors.

The confidential settlement agreements do not impose penalties on the companies but instead stipulate that each organization will immediately start classifying all drivers as employees instead of independent contractors, according to an announcement released Monday by Attorney General Martha Coakley.
