Spain Expands Electricity Sector Competition Probe

Law360, New York (February 5, 2010, 3:48 PM EST) -- Spain's competition regulator has added a group that represents the country's utilities to its investigation of potentially anti-competitive practices among several major electricity providers, including Endesa SA and E.ON AG.

The Spanish National Competition Commission confirmed Thursday that its eight-month-old probe into the utilities' alleged efforts to block customers from changing providers remains ongoing and that it had expanded the probe to include the Spanish Association of the Electrical Industry, or UNESA.
