PacifiCorp To Pay $450M To Remove Ore., Calif. Dams

Law360, New York (February 22, 2010, 1:12 PM EST) -- Federal and state officials have reached final agreements with energy giant PacifiCorp to remove four long-controversial hydropower dams on the Klamath River in Oregon and Northern California at a cost of $450 million.

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and Ted Kulongoski of Oregon, and PacifiCorp CEO Greg Abel signed two agreements Thursday that would pave the way for removing the dams by 2020 and put in place a water restoration program.
